The fire hit less than a year after the storm, Sandy, tore the exact same location apart, with nearly a similar amount of damage. Fortunately, the local firefighters were met with roughly 400 other firefighters who had been attending a convention 90 miles south of Seaside in Wildwood. It was not enough, however, to control the flames, with strong winds working against them and spreading the fire throughout the shore.

The flames calmed down after a section of the newly built boardwalk was ripped up to stop the fire from continuing further out. Officials claim that at least 30 businesses along the “Fun Town Pier” were destroyed in the disaster.

Although there is no confirmation as to what the flame was lit by, investigators sifting through the wreckage are considering that the fire started in a frozen custard shop. All possibilities are still being looked into, as well as what the next plan of action for the area will be.
