As more information becomes available about the gunman that killed twelve people at the Washington Navy Yard, federal officials continue to search for a motive into the shooting.

CNN and NBC News are reporting that the shooter, 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, called police in Rhode Island six weeks before the September 16 shooting after "hearing voices in the closet."

D.C. police declined to comment during a Tuesday press conference about Alexis' mental health status prior to the shooting, saying that further investigation was required.

According to federal authorities, Aaron Alexis was allegedly trying to get back into the Navy but had been “experiencing problems” with officials in the Navy as well as with his employer, a government contracting firm.
