After President Obama opened up the national discussion about nuclear weapons in Iran and Syria the president of Iran confirmed Tuesday that he would not be willing to meet with the president yet but did understand the concern he presented on weapons of mass destruction.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that Iran is prepared to have nuclear talks and that nuclear weapons have no place in his country's security. According to CNN Rouhani spoke with the U.N. General Assembly and said Iran was willing to " engage immediately in time-bound and result-oriented talks to build mutual confidence and removal of mutual uncertainties."

Rouhani's statement comes after the spotlight has been on Syria and the discussion of chemical weapons. President Obama insisted in his speech Tuesday that "The international community must enforce the ban on chemical weapons." He also stressed that the road to this discussion and developmental changes may be difficult but worth it.

Rouhani seems to agree with Obama's intentions of creating a more transparent government security system but isn't ready to set a timeframe on when further discussions will occur. He said Tuesday that the use of nuclear weapons or any other weapons of mass destruction "have no place in Iran's security doctrine, and contradict our fundamental religious and ethical convictions."

Rouhani's speech does show that there can be a shift in how the international community uses and maintains possession of weapons of mass destruction but it could take longer than many hoped for.
