Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)

Feinstein, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, backed the decision to authorize military action in Syria. Not only did Feinstein hope the United States would approve intervention, she hoped other countries would too. “I agree with Secretary Kerry that the world cannot let such a heinous attack pass without a meaningful response, and I hope the international community will take appropriate action," Feinstein said Friday. In 2002, Feinstein voted in favor of the Iraq War and then voted for the withdrawal of troops five years later.

Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.)

Boxer voted “yes” by proxy for military intervention in Syria. She voted against the war in Iraq but argued intervention in Syria was completely different from military action in Iraq. “In Iraq, the Bush administration prepared to invade and occupy a country with well over 100,000 troops," she said. Boxer, who also authored the Syria Accountability Act, eliminated any similarities between the situation in Syria and that of Iraq and Afghanistan, calling it a "false comparison."
