Lon Snowden, the father of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, has acquired the necessary documents to visit his son in Russia. Lon and his attorney, Bruce Fein, are planning how they can fight the espionage charges that Edward is facing for leaking government documents.

Lon hasn't spoken to his son since Edward fled the United States and received asylum in Russia

. However, Lon and his attorney want to discuss the options for Edward, including the possibility of returning home.

"As a father, I want my son to come home if I believe that the justice system is going to be applied correct," said Lon Snowden. "Where my son chooses to live the rest of his life is going to be his decision. Bu I would like at some point in time for him to be able to come back to the U.S."

However, Snowden's location in Russia and the exact date his father is planning to fly there are both unknown at this time. Last week, Edward's Russian lawyer sent the required invitation to Lon to visit the country, which is part of the process towards obtaining the travel visa.

Since Lon has already acquired his visa, he and Bruce are hoping to fly to Russia as early as next week according to Mattie Fein, a spokeswoman for the attorney.
