Castro was scheduled for an Aug. 5 trial on a 977-count. However, under this plea he will plead guilty to 937 counts. An attorney for the three women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, involved with the case, stated that they were hoping for Castro to accept the guilty plea, so that they would not have to face him in trial. The lawyers stated that these three women want to put this behind them and move forward with their lives.

According to ABC News, “The indictment included two counts of aggravated murder related to accusations that he punched and starved one woman until she miscarried. The former school bus driver also was charged with hundreds of counts of kidnapping and rape, plus assault and other counts.”

Judge Michael J. Russo asked Castro if he understood that he would never get out of prison. He confirmed he understood. Castro later stated, “My addiction to pornography and my sexual problem has really taken a toll on my mind." Before Russo cut him off, Castro interjected that he has been a victim of sexual abuse as a child.

The three women escaped from the house on May 6, 2013 when one of the women kicked open a door and called for help.
