Shooting on Santa Monica College Campus

Four people were shot at Santa Monica College shortly after noon on Friday. Two of the victums are in ciritcal condition, one is in good condition, and one has died. 

The believed shooter is believed to be wearing body armour dressed in black and carrying an assult rifle. 

According to the Los Angeles Times, “the suspect was found in the school's library and taken into custody.” Authorities have stated that the gunman’s condition is unknown. He was found in the school’s library and has been detained.

According to CNN, Sgt. Denise Joslin stated that authorities are checking reports for an additional shooter.

In the midst of the shooting, President Obama was en route to a Democratic National Committee fundraising event in Santa Monica. His luncheon is just 3 miles away although the secret service does not feel it will be affected.  

Santa Monica College is still on lock down.

According to CBS News, a first shooting took place on Pico Blvd. The gunman fired out of his vehicle and as of now no one was injured. The gunman then got back into his car and drove away.

CHP stated that they received 911 calls just before noon.

One of the cars shot at was a red sedan, which was pulling out of the staff parking lot.

A second incident was reported inside the library on campus.

The wounded were taken to the Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Two of the wounded are in critical condition. One of the wounded is believed to be the gunman.

Witnesses told NBC News that  a "fully armed" subject was discharging a firearm at vehicles in the area. The gunman opened fire on cars and a bus, according to CHP Sgt. Denise Joslin.

Students are wondering if campus will reopen today as it is in the middle of their finals period. Around, 14,000 students attend Santa Monica College. Other schools in the area are also on lockdown, including Roosevelt Elementary and John Adams Elementary.
