Pussy Riot Member In Hospital After Hunger Strike
One of two members of the "punk rock collective" Pussy Riot who remain in jail, Maria Alyokhina was hospitalized after a seven-day hunger strike.
Alyokhina began the hunger strike after she was prevented from attending her parole hearing, reported the Associated Press. Her lawyers published a letter from Alyokhina alleging that prison officials have waged a persecution campaign against her, including isolating her in solitary confinement for five months and urging fellow inmates to harass and threaten her.

Russian authorities have remained unmoved by pressure from the West to release Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova, despite appeals from President Barack Obama, Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, and Peter Gabriel. A collaborative art book entitled "Let's Start A Pussy Riot," featuring work from artists Yoko Ono, Jenny Holzer, Kara Walker and others will be released on June 15, with all proceeds to be donated to the band members and their families.
