CAMARILLO FIRE

A brush fire that began off the 101 Freeway Thursday morning in Camarillo has spread to over 2,000 acres.

According to KTLA, the fire began around 6:45 am and is currently at 0% containment. 

Ventura County Fire Department Spokesman Bill Nash said to the LA Times, "What we're telling residents is be prepared to evacuate. There are some homes in the area." The Red Cross established an evacuation shelter at Calvary Community Chapel in Camarillo. 

Hundreds of firefighters from Ventura County, Cal Fire, and the cities of Ventura and Oxnard are on the scene of the blaze to try and "get ahead of this thing."

ABC 7 reported that the California Highway Patrol shut down two right lanes on the southbound 101 Freeway near Camarillo Springs Road. 

The cause of this blaze is still unknown. 

SUMMIT FIRE

The Summit fire near Banning continues to rage on. The Riverside County Fire Department reported Thursday that the blaze has burned 3,000 acres of vegetation and is 40% contained. Two firefighters have been injured and one home has been destroyed.

Evacuations orders were lifted Wednesday night, according to the LA Times, and reduced amounts of wind have helped firefighters combat the blaze. 

JURUPA FIRE

A five acre vegetation fire Thursday promoted an evacuation at the elementary school in Jurupa Valley, according to NBC 4. 

Four homes, five outbuildings, ten vehicles, and one boat have been destroyed or damaged by the fire.

As of 10:30 am Thursday the fire is at 50% containment. 

Stuart Seto, a specialist with the National Weather Service, said humidity in the areas of the fires dropped significantly. The humidity coupled with "extreme" wind gusts made Thursday, he said, "the worst day as far as the fires."
