Banning Fire 30 Percent Contained
As the Los Angeles Times reports, the fire near the city of Banning erupted Wednesday at about 12:30 p.m. It continues to burn out of control, but firefighters say they are making progress.
Over 500 people were evacuated and one firefighter suffered minor injuries. One home was completely destroyed by the fire.
Firefighters are hoping to make significant strides in putting out the blaze before the hot and windy conditions projected for Thursday arrive.
The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning Wednesday, signifying critical fire danger, which will remain in effect through Friday. National fire officials also warned that a dry winter in the West will raise the potential of a more active fire season as temperatures warm.
