Petraeus, who resigned from the CIA in November after admitting to an extramarital affair with biographer Paula Broadwell, will hold the title of Judge Widney Professor at USC, according to the Huffington Post. The position is named for the university's founder and is reserved for eminent teachers.

The retired four-star U.S. Army general apologized for the affair at an event sponsored by the school earlier this year. 

Petraeus will begin his time at USC July 1st, reported KTLA. In addition to his teaching and mentoring duties, the LA Times said the general will help out with the ROTC program and participate in seminars on international relations, government, and leadership.

The university's President Max Nikias released a statement praising the 60 year old, who commanded coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, for having a "fearless commitment to excellence. Nikias statement went on to say, "His presence will have a profound impact on our students across many disciplines."

The general released his own statement saying, "I am very grateful to have an opportunity to be part of a great university that prizes academic excellence, that is doing cutting-edge research in areas of enormous importance to our country, and that is known for steadfast support of its veterans and ROTC programs."

This is the second teaching position for Petraeus, who holds a doctorate from Princeton University. He will also be a visiting professor at the City University of New York.
