The Los Angeles Times reports that a brushfire has broken out in Glendale on Friday afternoon, forcing the closure of the 2-134 interchange and other parts of the 2 freeway.  75 acres have been burned so far.

Glendale police say that the fire was reported shortly after 2 PM, and that residents in Chevy Chase and Glenoaks Canyon have been evacuated. An evacuation center has been established for those residents at the Adult Recreation Center at 201 E. Colorado St., according to city officials. Glenoaks Elementary School has also been evacuated, and Glendale Community College has canceled classes at its main campus.

The Glendale Fire Department has received reinforcements from the Los Angeles, Pasadena, and Burbank fire departments to help deal with the fire.

The Glendale fire is yet another in a series of fires that have occurred in California over the past month. Earlier this week, the National Weather Service placed large areas of the state on a Red Flag warning due to high temperatures and strong winds. According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, 845 wildfires have been recorded in the state in the first four months of 2013, a 60% increase compared to the five-year average over that same period.
