A letter addressed to President Obama has tested positive for the poison ricin, said the FBI Wednesday.

The letter was mailed to the president Tuesday, before it was intercepted at an off-site screening facility run by the Secret Service. The letter was received around the same time another ricin-laced letter was sent to Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi. Both letters were similar in appearance and had similar markings, according to the NY Times.

Reports of suspicious letters and packages continued to circulate within government channels.

Around the same time as the White House was informed of the letter, U.S. Capitol Police investigated a suspicious package delivered to the front office of Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby. Capitol police also investigated a suspicious package dropped off at the Hart Senate Office Building, where people were evacuated on-site.

The Hart atrium was later reopened, but there were no reports on what authorities discovered in the search.

Sen. Carl Levin released a statement Wednesday saying a staff member received "a suspicious-looking letter" Wednesday at the Michigan senator's office.

U.S. Capitol Police are "talking with someone" who may be involved, but said nobody has been charged so far.
