Investigations into the Boston Marathon bombing have been mired by a lack of clear, accurate information for law enforcement officials, reporters, and concerned citizens alike.

Now, some facts have been nailed down. One suspect has been killed and another hospitalized under the custody of authorities. Yet important issues continue to be clouded by mystery.

The surviving suspect, Dzhokhar Tsamaeva, has been confirmed as receiving treatment in custody at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. CBS reports that his injuries include gunshot wounds on his neck and leg.

Questions regarding Dzhokhar's prosecution loom large. The unusual nature of his capture and alleged crime has been cited by law enforcement officials as justification for departing from standard arrest procedure. While due process typically requires Miranda Rights to be read to all suspects immediately upon their arrest, the statement of these rights has been stayed as per a decision made by the Department of Justice(Slate)

U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Carmen Ortiz spoke as a representative of the Department of Justice on Friday. She said that the delay was permissible because of the suspect’s status as a national security risk.

While the Boston Police and FBI personnel swept through Boston and Watertown Friday afternoon, relatives of the suspects came forward to supply information. Their mother came forward to argue that they were unjustly targeted by law enforment, including the FBI. (RT.com) The Tsamaeva brothers, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan, have been described in scathing terms by other family members

Digital media sources have also revealed a wealth of information. Everything from Dzhokhar’s personal recreation preferences to his sleep schedule has been revealed from analyses of his social media output. (Quartz) On Friday morning, the discovery was made that Tamerlan had been documented at length by a journalism student, whose intention was to photograph the deceased suspect as a boxer and applicant for American citizenship. The brothers moved to Boston in 2002. As President Obama noted, an explanation for the Tsamaeva brothers orchestrating this alleged act of terrorism has not been put forth at this time. Nor has any official word been released yet as to the likelihood of prosecuting other individuals for involvement in the explosion of bombs on the day of the Boston Marathon.

This and other critical information may be parlayed by investigators in the days and weeks to come. Or these questions, including why the bombings occurred and if other individuals were involved in carrying out an attack, may remain obfuscated irrevocably.
