At least 27 people were killed and 51 more were injured after a suicide bomber attack at a coffee shop in western Baghdad on Thursday night. The bomb was hidden in a plastic bag at the coffee shop according to city authorities.

The cafe is in Baghdad's al-Amriya neighborhood, which is mostly inhibited by Sunni Muslims.

There have been other recent attacks around Baghdad, which have occurred before the country's provincial elections this Saturday. On Wednesday, there were four explosions in the area which resulted in three casualties and other injuries.

The attacks may impact the vote if Iraqis are afraid that the polling locations could be subject to further attacks this weekend. U.N. official Martin Kobler said that Iraqi security should be on "heightened alert" for the elections so that the citizens can feel safe while voting.

"I am calling on all women and men to cast their ballots for a better future for them and their children," Kobler said.

No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.
