The Oscars are known for bringing out stunning red carpet looks. But as always, the 2013 Academy Awards had their fair share of duds, flops and "what was she thinking?" sartorial moments.

Reese Witherspoon

We know Reese Witherspoon just had a baby in September 2012, and she might not have her pre-baby body back - but that doesn't mean she needs to play it safe. Additionally, her dress, a simple black and navy Louis Vuitton number, was not only safe, but ill-fitting. The midsection and hips make her look bulky and the dress is too long for her small frame.

Nancy O'Dell's body looks great in her Chagoury Couture gown. But we aren't fans of the figure skater-meets prom dress style of this look. The light blue color is overwhelming against her platinum locks and tan complexion, and the ombre style has been seen time and time again - last year.

Brandi Glanville's gown is a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. The bust of her dress is so poorly tailored that a single wrong move could result in disaster. The rest of the gown looks gorgeous and fits perfectly - it's a shame everyone will be focused on her chest!

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy's grey David Meister gown does not seem Oscar worthy. The fabric looked like jersey, and the embellished shoulder and sleeves failed to dress up the gown. Additionally, the black peek-a-boo slit seems out of place and further adds to the confusion of her wardrobe choice.

Simply put, the deconstructed pale pink Prada gown worn by Anne Hathaway is confusing. The sheath style is safe, and the darting at the bust looks, well, awkward. The back of the gown appears unfinished, and the slit in the back seems out of place. Her Tiffany & Co. necklace is beautiful, but overshadowed by the strange wardrobe choice. For an Oscar nominee, she could have done much better.

Clearly, Kelly Rowland is tapping into the asymmetrical trend with her Donna Karan Atelier gown. However trendy, the fit of the gown on Rowland seems off, loose on the bust and tight across the hips. Additionally, asymmetry paired with a sweetheart neckline just makes her bust look uneven.

Salma Hayek looks stunning, but uncomfortable in her black velvet gown with bejeweled high neckline. The high neckline idea is great, but it looks too uptight on Hayek with the heavy embellishment and dark velvet. With a husband that owns much of the fashion world, she could have made a much better choice in gown.
