The LAPD held a press conference Wednesday morning at downtown headquarters to update the public on the manhunt for Christopher Dorner and Tuesday's events in Big Bear.

According to Lieutenant Andy Neiman with LAPD media relations, the LAPD never gave up hope that Dorner was still in Big Bear.

"We never abandoned the thought that he was on the mountain."

The LAPD could not provide any confirmation as to when the body will be identified or the condition it was found in. All questions on the current investigation are to be directed to the San Bernardino Police Department.

Lt. Neiman also confirmed that the re-opened investigation was still continuing.

"Chief Beck wants to make sure the public is confident in his police department," he said. "If there are things found on the report we will investigate them further."

Lt. Neiman stressed that there is a lot to be learned from the past week which will improve the department. As San Bernardino completes its investigation, there are also multiple witnesses who need to be questioned from incidents that occurred over the past week.

"There are many lessons to be learned. We are kind of in a fog right now. It's hard for us and the public to believe this really happened."

The manhunt has brought an undisclosed amount of overtime on the department. Lt. Neiman said that over 100 hours of overtime were expended daily but that it's too early to tell just how much this will cost the department and the city of Los Angeles.

In regard to the tactic of burning the cabin, Nieman insisted that the LAPD has used tear gas in previous standoff incidents and that the gas is prone to produce fires.

When asked if there was anything the LAPD wanted to say to Dorner's supporters, Neiman slowly shook his head "no" in response. There is no indication of when the next press conference will be or any information as to what will happen with the reward money.

The LAPD is currently focused on laying to rest a Riverside officer who was allegedly killed in a shootout with Dorner last week.
