GOP lawmakers in the House reconsidered their decision to postpone the vote on a relief package for victims of Superstorm Sandy after it was lambasted on both sides of the aisle.

Fox News reported Speaker John Boehner and House Republican Leader Eric Cantor issued a statement Wednesday: "Getting critical aid to the victims of Hurricane Sandy should be the first priority in the new Congress, and that was reaffirmed today with members of the New York and New Jersey delegations."

Boehner said in a closed-door meeting that the House would vote Friday on a proposal to hand off $9 billion in flood insurance, with another vote Jan. 15 on the $51 billion aid bill.

Among the most vocal critics of the move to postpone the vote were Rep. Peter King of New York and President Barack Obama. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie also issued a statement, saying, "When American citizens are in need we come to their aid. That tradition was abandoned in the House last night."

They weren't the only ones disgusted with the initial decision. Check out what Twitter users had to say Wednesday even after Boehner limped back with his tail between his legs.
