Morsi Sets Date For Referendum
The vote, set for Dec. 15, was greeted with either cheers of support, or shoes in the air opposition among Egyptians, illustrating the ever widening divide between those who support Morsi and those who oppose him, Fox News reported.
Mass oppositions have been held by those who have denounced the president's actions, calling them near dictatorial and calling his the referendum a constitution which undermines basic freedoms and violates universal rights, the Associated Press reported.

However, Morsi’s announcement also triggered celebration among his supporters. The largest turnout of people to show their support for him since he took office in June, which the New York Times reported showed a sign of strength for Islamists seeking to counter opposition protest.

Jon Leyne a BBC reporter stationed in Cairo reported that the two weeks until the ballot will be tense, as Egyptians prepare to vote not just on the constitution but also on the country's future.
If approved, the new text will overwrite all constitutional declarations and a new parliament will be elected within 60 days.
