With Christmas right around the corner, cupcakeries are busy making sure their holiday treats are all decked out in their best holiday splendor. Many of these seasonal cupcake flavors are only available for the month of December.

Crumbs Bake Shop, known for its elaborate cupcake decorations, features sweets that are pleasing to both the eye and the palette this Christmas.

Crumbs, which always has a "Cupcake of the Month," is showcasing its "Chocolate Candy Cane" for the month of December. "Chocolate Candy Cane" features chocolate cake filled with peppermint cream cheese frosting with a red tint and is topped with peppermint cream cheese frosting, crushed peppermint candy and a candy cane. This flavor is a sure hit for those who love the peppermint flavor, according to Crumbs Beverly Hills employee Isabell Godlewski.

"It has a strong peppermint flavor, so if people who really like peppermint have been getting it," Godlewski said.

Besides its current "Cupcake of the Month," Crumbs offers customers other holiday-themed cupcakes, such "Egg Nog," a vanilla cake with eggnog cream cheese frosting, and "Gingerbread Man," a spice cake adorned with pink-tinted vanilla cream cheese frosting and a decorated Gingerbread man cookie.

"That one [‘Gingerbread Man’] is really popular because it comes with an actual Gingerbread man cookie on top," Godlewski said.

Other Christmas-themed cupcakes customers can find at Crumbs include:

--the elaborately-decorated "Snowman," with a full snowman face as its topping

--"Irish Hot Chocolate," an Irish cream-infused chocolate cake complete with white and dark chocolate shavings and a pirouline cookie "straw"

--"Starry Night," garnished with red and green star décor, and "Gift Wrapped," a cupcake decorated like a present.

Customers looking to take the perfect snack or gift to cupcake lovers can also find the perfect solution through Crumbs’ "Holiday Signature Collection," a six-pack of cupcakes including "Mistletoe," "Christmas Tree," "Chocolate Candy Cane," "White Hot Chocolate," "Red Squiggle" and "Christmas Confetti."

Those looking for a larger sampling can order the "Holiday Gourmet Taste Pack," which includes two of each of the featured flavors, such as "Chocolate Holiday Nonpareil" and "Gingerbread."

Located just a few blocks from the Crumbs Beverly Hills, Sprinkles Beverly Hills features Christmas cupcakes of its own. Though its cupcake decorations may not be as elaborate as those found at Crumbs, Sprinkles’ cupcakes still score high in quality and taste.

Sprinkles holiday-themed cupcakes include:

--"Chocolate Peppermint," a Belgian dark chocolate cake coated with bittersweet chocolate peppermint frosting and crushed peppermint candies

--"Eggnog Spice," a spice cake topped with eggnog cream cheese frosting and Christmas tree or star décor

--"Vanilla Peppermint," a Madagascar Bourbon vanilla cake garnished with vanilla peppermint frosting and crushed peppermint candies.

Those who want to spread a little more Christmas cheer can order Sprinkles’ "JOY Box", which features the "Chocolate Peppermint," traditional "Red Velvet," "Coconut" and "Vanilla Peppermint" cupcakes. The holiday-themed cupcakes, as well as the "JOY Box," are available only until Christmas Eve.

Georgetown Cupcake, which opened its first West Coast location in Los Angeles last month, also features a variety of holiday-themed sweet treats.

Some of Georgetown’s 13 seasonal flavors include:

--"Butterscotch Pudding," complete with an overload of butterscotch flavor

--"Holiday Lava Fudge," seasonal version of Georgetown’s Valrhona chocolate cupcake with a decadent fudge center adorned with vanilla icing, a green fondant Christmas tree and a fudge star drizzle

--"Santa’s Chocolate Chip," a vanilla chocolate chip cupcake topped with Callebaut chocolate frosting and a fondant snowflake.

For customers who want to order cupcakes in bulk, Georgetown Cupcake offers a variety of holiday cupcake assortments. The "Season’s Greetings Dozen" includes three "Rudolph Red Velvet" cupcakes; three "White Chocolate Peppermint" cupcakes; three "Gingerbread" cupcakes and three "Chocolate Egg Nog" cupcakes.

The "Christmas Collection" assortment includes 12 different holiday flavors, such as "Red Mitten Vanilla," Georgetown’s seasonal spin on its traditional vanilla cupcake and "Butterscotch Pudding." The "Winter Wonderland Dozen" features six vanilla and buttercream cupcakes with snowflake fondant decorations and six chocolate cupcakes topped with baby blue buttercream and fondant snowman decorations.

The "Happy Christmas Dozen" features six "Butterscotch Pudding" cupcakes and six "English Christmas" cupcakes (Georgetown Cupcake’s take on the English Christmas spice cake). The "Happy Holidays Dozen" features three of each of the following flavors — "Gingerbread," "Chocolate Snowball," "Chocolate Peppermint" and "Rudolph Red Velvet." Finally, for customers who cannot get enough of these particular flavors, Georgetown Cupcakes offers the single-flavored "Gingerbread Dozen" and "Rudolph Red Velvet Dozen."
