No longer do cupcake fanatics have to trek to Washington DC to experience the renowned Georgetown Cupcake. The novelty cupcakery opened its first West Coast location in Los Angeles on Nov. 17 and was welcomed by an enthusiastic crowd, according to manager Andrew Corriente.

“The response [so far] has been very, very good,” he says. “We had a line that was 90 minutes long in the rain on opening day.”

With more than 15 flavors on its daily menu, Georgetown Cupcake is well known for its vast variety of cupcakes. Not only does it feature daily flavors like “Toffee Crunch” and “Chocolate Hazelnut,” but Georgetown Cupcake offers customers special holiday flavors for the entire month of December.

“Every month, we cycle through a bunch of seasonal flavors,” Corriente explains. “So we have [both] monthly seasonal and daily flavors. All of our holiday flavors have been available since Dec. 1.”

Some of the cupcakery’s most unique holiday flavors include “Chocolate Egg Nog,” a Valrhona chocolate egg nog-infused cupcake topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a fondant snowflake; “Butterscotch Pudding,” complete with an overload of butterscotch flavor; and “White Chocolate Peppermint,” made with white Callebaut chocolate peppermint and decorated with a candy cane-striped white chocolate buttercream frosting.

While the holiday flavors have been popular, Corriente says that some of the daily flavors still remain customer favorites. These flavors include the “Peanut Butter Fudge,” a Valrhona chocolate cupcake with a rich chocolate center and topped with creamy peanut butter frosting; and the “Lava Fudge,” a moist, light Valrhona chocolate cupcake with a decadent fudge center topped with vanilla icing. But one flavor always tops the rest, in terms of customer orders.

“The ‘Red Velvet,’ is our most popular flavor, hands down,” Corriente says.

When it comes to the cupcakery’s “uniqueness factor,” Corriente cites not its variety of flavors, but the fresh ingredients that set Georgetown Cupcake apart from the rest.

“We use the finest ingredients like Callebaut chocolate, Valrhona chocolate and Madagascar Bourbon vanilla,” he says.

And, while the Los Angeles store might be similar to its DC counterpart in terms of product and trademark ingredients, there are subtle differences.

“We’re designed similar to the DC store—like in wood in color schemes—but we’re actually larger,” Corriente confirms.
