A Pentagon spokesman said Wednesday that the decision to indefinitely suspend Kelley’s pass to Mac Dill Airforce Base was made in the last couple days and acted in the best interest of the base’s community. Kelley may continue to gain access to the Airforce base but she must sign in through the visitor center.

Kelley was also appointed as an honorary consul for South Korea from the city of Tampa. The executive assistant at the South Korean Consulate told CBS that Kelley still hold this position but did not know how she received the position or what work she has done.

Broadwell, a former Army intelligence office held a high security clearance through the Army. It was the service’s choice to remove suspends her access.

A military official told NBC News Broadwell was suspended because of her address to an alumni symposium at the University of Denver.
During her speech, Broadwell discussed the security at the consulate in Benghazi Libya, where Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others were killed.

BBC News reported that it is not unusual for clearance to be suspended if someone is under investigation, especially for cases of possible security breach.

President Obama announced at a press conference that investigation had disproven any claim.

If Broadwell was working for the Army at the time of the affair, she could be subject to further prosecution under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
