The New York Times has reportedly uncovered the identity of the FBI agent responsible for starting the investigation that resulted in Gen. David Petraeus’ resignation.

The agent, Fredrick W. Humphries, allegedly researched a complaint from friend Jill Kelley, who had received emails about her relationship with Patraeus.

Colleagues call Humpries a “solid agent with expertise in counterterrorism, conservative political views, and a reputation for aggressiveness,” according to the New York Times.

General Counsel for the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, Lawrence Berger, denied the rumor that Humphries sent Kelley shirtless photos and called them a joke. He noted that the photo was sent years before Kelley contacted him.

“It was sent as part of a larger context of what I would call social relations in which the families would exchange numerous photos of each other,” Berger said.
