At least 20 people were killed and more than 50 injured in Aleppo, Syria, Tuesday when a bakery was hit by a shell, activists told the Los Angeles Times

Government forces attacked the Masaken Hanano neighborhood where the bakery was located. The victims were among more than 100 killed across Syria on Tuesday, activists told the Times.

Abu Firas, a spokesman for the Revolutionary Council for Aleppo and Its Suburbs, told the Times that about 100 people were lined up at the bakery. It was the only bakery still operating in that portion of the city, the newspaper reported.

Human Rights Watch told CNN in August that 10 bakeries had been bombed in the Aleppo province, one in which at least 60 people died.

Col. Abdu Jabar Agadi of the rebel Free Syrian Army told CNN that Syrian troops shelled the location and rebels didn’t have the weapons to retaliate.

“The bakery was intentionally targeted by the regime to terrorize the residents,” he said.
