U.N. Chief Calls For End Of War In Syria

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for international action to end the war in Syria Tuesday at a gathering of world leaders. The U.N. chief said the "international community should not look the other way as violence spirals out of control" and "stop the violence and flows of arms to both sides." Ban called for the United Nations to create liberated zones within the country and offer humanitarian aid to refugees. Ban's speech followed President Obama's U.N. remarks Tuesday, where he called for sanctions and consequences "for those who persecute and assistance and support for those who work for this common good." With a deeply divided U.N., an immediate resolution to the conflict is unlikely.
