Two Syrian army compounds in Aleppo were bombed simultaneously Sunday, killing many of President Bashar al-Assad's forces, Reuters reported.

The state news agency reported 17 were killed and at ealst 40 wounded in the blasts. Witnesses place the casualty number closer to 100. The Noble Aleppo brigade of the Free Syrian Army issued a statement taking responsibility for the attack which claimed they had killed or wounded at least 200 soldiers.

Assad's forces have increasingly turned to aerial bombardments to fight the rebels. An air attack damaged a water pipe line and the city has been suffering from severe water shortages.
