The Washington Post reports that polls show Obama with a steady lead in the nine states he and Romney are competing in.
If the election was held today, an Associated Press analysis shows Obama would win at least 271 electoral votes, with likely victories in crucial Ohio and Iowa along with 19 other states and the District of Columbia. Romney would win 23 states for a total of 206.
To oust the Democratic incumbent, Romney would need to take up-for-grabs Florida, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Virginia, which would put him at 267 votes, and upend Obama in either Ohio or Iowa.
Polls show that if the election was held today, Obama would receive 271 electoral votes, compared to Romney's 206, reports The Daily Beast.

The Romney camp, however, said that there is sill time for Romney to win.
"In these kinds of races people focus near the end, and that's what's happening now," Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan told "Fox News Sunday."

Obama's momentum in recent weeks could be due to optimism about the economy and the controversial 47 percent comment made by Romney.
The first presidential debate will occur Wednesday, and could be an important opportunity for Romney to gain ground.
