Obama To Address United Nations
Obama will speak on topics including the recent anti-Muslim video that sparked protests in the Middle East, the importance of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power and the conflict in Syria and the Middle East peace process, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Sen. John Barrasso claims the key issues Obama needs to address to satisfy the American people are the war on terror, the United States’ relationship with Israel and the details of his foreign policy.
Aides to the president hope that this talk is an opportunity for Obama to discuss foreign policy issues and criticism that has emerged during the election, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Obama faced criticism from Romney and the GOP for failing to arrange a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. They accused Obama of downgrading the significance of the United States’ relationship with Israel, according to USA Today.
Obama will not be meeting with any leaders during his trip to New York, a departure from his previous trips where he has met with several leaders.
