Florida Sen. Marc Rubio is being "thoroughly vetted" as a possible candidate for vice president, Mitt Romney announced to a group of reporters in Holland, Michigan.

Romney was trying to put to rest news reports that Rubio was not being considered.

Rubio is a Cuban-American who was elected to the Senate in 2010 and has been seen as a crucial link to the all-important Latino vote. He was working to develop a GOP bill on immigration until Obama announced his new policy on no longer deporting those brought here as children and who are in good legal standing.

Rubio predicted he would not be the vice-presidential candidate as recently as March.

Romney made the announcement during a five-day bus tour across six states.
