France Votes For New Parliament

Voting has begun on the final round of parliamentary elections in France, which, if a socialist majority is reached, could give newly elected Socialist President Francois Hollande the power to execute a government-sponsored stimulus in France, a reversal of the budget tightening policy of former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

Last week, during the first round of parliamentary elections, the Socialists exhibited a strong showing of support and polls have suggested that a socialist absolute majority is possible, though not a certainty.

Voter turnout may in part help determine the election, as this is the fourth election in France in two months.
