Midway through the 2012 presidential campaign year, Los Angeles boasts some of the largest donations, representing five of the top 50 campaign-contributing zip codes in the nation.
From Beverly Hills (90210) to Century City (90067) to Universal City (91608) both Republican and Democratic parties and their Super PACs have been raking in millions; not to mention President Obama's fundraisers in Brentwood and Beverly Hills at $35,800 a head.
But in the poorest zip codes of Los Angeles-- such as Bell (90201), Chinatown (90012) and areas of South L.A. (90011, 90044, 90006)-- few donations have been received, if any all.
In our "Money, Matters & Votes" Special Report, Neon Tommy maps out the five top-contributing zip codes of L.A. as well as the five least-contributing zip codes.
We've talked to individual and corporate donors about why they contribute and what difference they say it makes.
We also got to know those who cannot or choose not to donate, hearing whether they feel overlooked when it comes to political promises and what issues, both on a local and national level, worry them the most.
