Could you not do that, please?

It all started out with the hit video “Shit Girls Say.”  For the few that haven’t seen it, the video is a man dressed in drag and imitating the sayings and mannerisms of women. The hilarity ranges from the “woman” asking, “Can you do me a huge favor?” to her munching loudly on snacks while watching a movie.

It’s hilarious, and as one commenter said, “it’s like looking into a mirror.” Since being posted just over a month ago, the video has over 12 million hits on YouTube, and the creators have made three “episodes” of the series. They even have a Twitter account. On top of that, the Internet has exploded with copycat videos of people documenting everything that people say everywhere.

And now, it needs to stop.

It was good for a while. Everyone laughed when they found that one video that related to them. When someone posted “Sh*t RAs Say” and "Shit People Say in LA" on my Timeline, I couldn’t stop watching.

People like the videos because they point out all the crazy things they say – and that’s okay. Admit it, you’ve probably asked, or heard a girl ask, “Could you reach into my purse?” And which Angeleno hasn’t had an issue finding a parking spot at one point?

Now, it’s gotten so bad that there seems to be a video for everything. There’s “Sh*t Nobody Says,” “Shit College Freshmen Say” and even the completely unnecessary “Shit Blue Whales Say.”

We had good times, but now the joke is over.  It has run its course.  You are killing it.  Stop making the videos.

The genre of videos is exhausted, but yet people still try to jump on the bandwagon. Now, the videos are too specific and they’ve lost their creativity. “Sh*t People Say When Playing ‘Words With Friends’”? We all know that we’re trying to figure out a word with all consonants, no need to videotape it.

There was something great about mocking our everyday actions and making us laugh at ourselves, but now things are getting borderline offensive.  “Shit Fat People Say”?  Come on.

The trend is destined to go the way of “Pants on the Ground,” “The Bed Intruder Song” and all other internet fads. People will continue to murder the joke and slowly it will fade away, just like “Friday.” One day, you’ll find the videos and laugh again, but you’ll mostly be laughing at how obsessed we all were with them.

I’m tired of people clogging up my news feed and Twitter stream and Tumblr dash with all these ridiculous videos. Really? “Shit Silicon Valley Says”?

No.

So, please, put down your video cameras and stop making that “Sh*t Dogs Say Pt. 7” video. The genre is dead.
