The famous mother-daughter duo of Lorelai (Lauren Graham) and Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel) won over the hearts of America in their family drama, "Gilmore Girls." The series premiered on the former television network, the WB in 2000. The show was a favorite among the female demographic before getting cancelled in 2007.

Lorelai Gilmore, an unmarried young mother had her daughter, Rory, at 16. Fans of the series enjoyed the witty banter between the pair whom often acted more like sisters. The series tagline, “Fate made them mother and daughter. Love made them friends,” rang true as the two matured together. 

Lorelai was marked by her free spirit and extremely sarcastic nature that infuriated her upper-crust and conservative parents. Since the show’s cancellation, Graham explored roles on the silver screen. Graham played Steve Carell’s wife in the 2007 film, "Evan Almighty," the sequel to "Bruce Almighty," directed by Tom Shadyac. It harped on Graham's talents in a comedic role alongside the famous funny-man. However, the movie received generally bad reviews.

"Evan Alimighty" was also the most expensive film comedy ever made and due to its less-than-stellar box office results, it was a great financial loss. 

Graham is now starring on another popular TV drama series, "Parenthood," on NBC. Graham, once again, plays a single mother. She is a struggling, hard-working and loving mother whose emotional hardships lead her to a life she was not expecting. Although on the surface, the two characters seem similar, the storyline of "Parenthood" runs a lot deeper than the fast-talking and aloof Lorelai Gilmore fans were used to seeing. 

Since "Gilmore Girls," the innocent daughter, Rory, has grown up a lot in her more recent roles. Bledel reprised her role as, Lena Kaligaris, the shy, artistic beauty, in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," a popular translated book series. 

The 2009 historically based film, "The Conspiritor," directed by Robert Redford, explores the conspiracy over who was associated with the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The film followed the trial of the one woman connected with the murder, Mary Surrat, who owned the boarding house where the assisians met. 

Bledel’s character, Sarah Weston, played the girlfriend of Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy), the young war hero who defended Surrat. 

In a 2010 role, Bledel shocked audiences when she played a mentally unstable young police woman, Kate Logan, in "The Kate Logan Affair," directed by Noël Mitrani. 

It is refreshing to see this young actress expand her acting repertoire. Bledel has two movies in pre-production expected to be released next year. 

Every "Gilmore Girls" fan who watched the 2011 summer comedy, "Bridesmaids," had to do a double take. Directed by Paul Feig and written by the literary mastermind comedians of "Saturday Night Live," the story followed a mismatched bridal party of hysterical women. 

Melissa McCarthy, who played Sookie St. James and Lorelai’s best friend in "Gilmore Girls," starred as the unexpected and outspoken bridesmaid, Megan. 

The ladies of "Bridesmaids" predominately improvised their lines. This added to the unexpected jokes and chemistry between the characters. 

McCarthy is often casted as the best friend role, like we saw her in "The Back-up Plan" as Carol. Her persona often shines as a token of comedic relief. 

For the dedicated "Gilmore Girls" fans who still sing the theme song, “Where You Lead,” by Carole King, they will continue to follow the stars of "Gilmore Girls" wherever their careers may lead.
