The worst fire in Texas state history continued to rage Tuesday morning as officials estimated 1,000 homes had already burned in the past week.

The fire has left Gov. Rick Perry's plans up in the air as a critical GOP debate nears.

The governor cut short a visit to South Carolina Monday before taking a helicopter tour through some of the burned areas.

Though Perry canceled a California event today, he still hoped to participate in the GOP debate at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley on Wednesday.

Speaking on CBS's "Early Show," Perry wouldn't commit to the event, which will be co-hosted by NBC and Politico.

“I don't know,” Perry told Wragge of the debate. “That's a fluid situation at the moment, so again I go back to we're going to be taking care of the folks here. I've got a great team of people to work with. That's one of the things I've been blessed with for 10 years.”

Perry's communication office released a press release addressing the fire Tuesday morning.

The fire is one of 63 currently burning in the state. It has charred 100,000 acres.
