The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards are upon us, and amidst the profusion of  “television gold,” I am confident that Sunday will bring plenty of fashion gold as well.  

In 2010, a considerable number of actresses opted for a more classic perception of beauty on the red carpet.  Long earrings grazed the bare shoulders of celebrities wearing strapless or one-shoulder gowns.  Despite the influential street trend of statement necklaces at the time, most actresses chose to keep all of the attention focused on the flattering neckline of their dresses by not wearing a necklace at all.  However, my primary complaint about last year’s style was the wave of navy and black dresses that swept the red carpet.

This year, I hope to see many more female celebrities adorned in dazzling and vibrant-colored gowns that beg to be seen.  Although we all witnessed color blocking's reign as a top fashion trend, monochromatic colors are also a must for this fall.  Think emerald, fuchsia, scarlet, and azure in the likes of Sofia Vergara’s yellow Carolina Herrera gown, Keri Russell’s vintage Jean Louis Scherrer pink dress, and January Jones’ cobalt Versace from last year’s Emmy Awards.

Consider Tina Fey, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Liz Lemon in “30 Rock.”  For last year’s Emmy Awards, she wore a black, beaded Oscar de la Renta gown.  The floor-length dress flattered her enviable body, yet it appeared somewhat indiscernible among the dark shades of nearly every other dress that evening.  On the other hand, Tina Fey turned heads in her ruby Oscar de la Renta gown that she modeled beautifully at the 2011 Screen Actors’ Guild Awards in January.  My fingers are crossed that she will step out in an equally striking ensemble this Sunday.  Julianna Margulies (nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her part as Alicia Florrick in “The Good Wife”), Lauren Graham, and Heidi Klum should also follow suit by taking a break from black.

Aside from radiant color, I hope to see more feminine, lace accents on this year’s dresses.  The boudoir look effortlessly masters the mélange of flirtatious and elegant, and is an apparent fall trend on the runway for designers such as Dior, Jenni Kayne, Monique Lhuillier, and Vena Cava.   

Long-sleeved gowns could also make a memorable appearance on the red carpet this year, as they are universally flattering and refined.  As InStyle describes, “concealment of flesh, but not the body, is the mood.”

My fashion forecast for the 2011 Emmy Awards is optimistic, but we’ll have to wait until Sunday to see who truly put her best Louboutin-clad foot forward.
