While New York runways go menswear chic this season, the Emmys red carpet remains oh-so-feminine with vampy red hues, plunging necklines and body-hugging fishtail gowns.

Stars flocked to rich Bordeaux shades of deep red, crimson and purple on the carpet. Nina Dobrev stunned in an ultra-sexy Donna Karan fishtail frock in a red hue similar to that of Lea Michele’s Marchesa, which featured strikingly structural sleeves. Giuliana Rancic, Mildred Pierce nominee Kate Winslet, Adrianne Palicki and Kerry Washington all donned their own striking shades of red.

Conversely, neutrals and muted pastel hues continued their red carpet domination of last season and were given added drama with jeweled and textural embellishments. Jayma Mayes kept the uber-feminine trend alive in a light pink Zuhir Murad gown with ruffled tiers and lace, while "Modern Family’s" Ariel Winter accented her rose-colored gown with textured floral details. Jennifer Carpenter amped up the wow-factor of her nude Tony Ward gown with silver embellishments and a thigh-high slit.

Stars took the plunge on the Emmys red carpet with dramatic, cleavage-baring silhouettes. Dobrev, Rancic, and Rachael Harris all donned the sweetheart style – a red carpet favorite - while many attendees opted for seductive plunging necklines. Christina Hendricks followed the classically feminine trend of the evening in a beaded Johanna Johnson gown with a deep v neckline, and supporting actress winner Julie Bowen’s J. Mendel featured a similarly down-to-there silhouette.

In keeping with the sensual, body-hugging trend dominating Emmys night, most stars chose fitted fishtail gowns, including Sofia Vergera in a Grecian coral gown and Julia Styles, who opted for a dusty lavender Georges Hobelka with the ubiquitous sweetheart neckline. Kelly Osborne also sported the show-stopping silhouette in a strappy J. Mendel creation.

Though Sunday’s red carpet may have been on red-hued, fishtail gown overload, the night also had its share of refreshing sartorial surprises. Gwyneth Paltrow’s sheer black, midriff-baring Pucci was a vast departure from the classically feminine silhouettes that most stars opted for on Sunday. Cobie Smulders and Olivia Munn also made unconventional choices, forgoing the neutrals and reds dominating the carpet. Smulders wore a drapey, bright blue Alberta Ferretti, while Munn returned to the bright hues favored last awards season in a green silk gown.
