Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will give his sixth State of the City address this evening. The mayor is expected to focus on education reform, promising in a Youtube video to reveal plans to “engage in more aggressive reforms to give students and parents more and better choices and give teachers and administrators the support and resources they deserve.” Neon Tommy’s Paresh Dave gives some background on the mayor’s top priorities throughout his years in office, many which have taken a back seat to the city's budget fiascos. Stay tuned for more coverage later in the day.

  • The shuttle is on its way to Los Angeles, says the L.A. Times. Shuttle Endeavour will make its way to the California Science Center in Exposition Park. The Times’ article points out some challenges the relocation faces: Can you imagine the space shuttle navigating L.A. traffic?
  • The Daily News reports Councilman Dennis Zine is aiming to ensure the city collects what it’s owed.  As the new chairman of the Audits and Governmental Efficiency Committee, Zine’s first target is ... wait for it ... parking lot debt.  The City Controller has come out with several audits in recent years chiding the city for its inability to collect.
