More than 6,000 city employees got some unwelcome news Wednesday from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. The mayor ordered those workers to take 42 furlough days after they rejected a concession plan by the mayor, the Los Angeles Times reported. Villaraigosa has said the concessions are needed to help close a $457-million deficit. The union groups who voted for the plan will be spared the forced days off, which have become a yearly occurrence in L.A.

In other furlough news, LAUSD has worked out an agreement with its administrator and police unions to help close a $408-million budget hole, the Daily News says. Twelve furlough days will be imposed on those workers. A poll released yesterday, found a majority of Californians support raising taxes on the wealthy to solve the recurrent budget problems in K-12 education, Neon Tommy says.

A lot has been made over the city’s inability to collect parking ticket fines. According to LADOT, it’s harder than it appears,Neon Tommy reports.

The Daily Breeze has a nice piece about Marymount art students providing downtown San Pedro with an infusion of youth, and of course art. Also in art, Neon Tommy visited MOCA's "Art in the Streets" exhibit. You can check out the "wild style" here
