Former Alaska governor and one-time vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin had Lasik eye surgery, yet still wears glasses to "look smarter," according to a leaked manuscript of a former Palin aide's tell-all memoir based on thousands of personal e-mails he exchanged with her.

An early draft of the unpublished book, tentatively titled "Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin: A Memoir of Our Tumultuous Years," was leaked to reporters and contains several revealing anecdotes of a tightly-wound Palin "who is wounded by every slight, ready to go to the mat over any rumor that has to do with her family, and determined to punish any entity that has criticized her."

The manuscript "reveals Palin, as a candidate for governor, penning letters-to-the-editor in praise of herself, to be sent under other names. It blames the candidate for inflaming, rather than ignoring, scurrilous rumors. And it quotes her pledging to avoid appearing on any network other than Fox News, referring to the rest as 'the bad guys,'" according to POLITICO.

Ex-aide Frank Bailey's book is being touted as an "expose of the inner workings of her operation."

Bailey began working for Palin as a campaign volunteer when she was running for governor and worked his way up to administration official. Bailey was deeply involved in the "Troopergate" scandal and worked for Palin through 2009 when she abruptly resigned and left office.

But POLITICO spoke with a Palin "ally" who "said that the content should be viewed through the lens of Bailey being 'the quintessential disgruntled employee' who had been denied senior jobs he sought, cut out of Palin’s vice presidential campaign."

In an e-mail promoting the manuscript, the Carol Mann Agency writes, "Drawing on thousands of emails from the personal accounts of Sarah and Todd Palin as well as key members of the staff, Bailey reconstructs how the Palins' pathologies became apparent, and how he and other members of the team rationalized Sarah's increasingly erratic behavior and their commitment to a cause that was changing shape before their eyes…[T]he revelations and insights of Frank's story are more necessary than ever."

One such example of the correspondences: Nearly a year after her notorious interview with CBS Evening News' Katie Couric, Palin wrote in a June 2009 e-mail, “[Couric] SUCKED in ratings before she stumbled upon her little gig mocking me…She did almost lose her job before that VP interview…”

Palin later told her aides she would only be speaking to Fox, deeming the other networks "the bad guys."

“Every time we participate with the bad guys we are telling viewers/readers: ‘go watch them! Tune in to what they have to say to bash us today!’ I can’t do that anymore,” Palin wrote. "I am through with the idiots who use and abuse us—we can NOT win them over, I hate giving them ratings boosts.”

Other leaked e-mails point to the former governor's vanity and obsession with her image and looks.

When an invitation to speak at a fundraising dinner for Newt Gingrich was rescinded by the GOP congressional campaign committees, Palin bashed Gingrich and the GOP as "egotistical, narrow minded machine goons."

She continued, “Plus, I had nothing to wear, and God knew that too. Party machinery sucks. I can’t tell you how much I hate it - nothing ever changes - we went through it before and after the VP campaign."

And what about those glasses?

Josh Green of The Atlantic tweeted, "'Revelation' from disgruntled Palin aide's leaked book: claims she had Lasik surgery--but still wears glasses to look smarter."

According to the Alaska Dispatch, which received a leaked copy of the manuscript, the memoir "begins near the end of Palin's governorship with the following line:"

On April 28, 2009, Sarah wrote a simple, but frequently repeated message: "I hate this damn job..."

Among other things, the book alleges illegal coordination between Palin and the Republican Governors Association during her 2006 governor's race, something that she denied at the time.  Although Bailey knew that such coordination violated campaign laws, he writes:

"As far as dealing with a guilty conscience, I'd suffer that collateral damage in silence, not daring to even discuss this with my wife."

The book ends with the following epiphany:

"I will never, ever, surrender blind allegiance to anyone again, save God and family."

Bailey has been working on a book since Palin left office in 2009 and has tried to get published at least once before. The manuscript currently stands at 456 pages.

The book is co-written with California novelist and former Wall Street executive Ken Morris and Alaskan blogger Jeanne Devon, who is known to be a "frequent critic of Palin."

Many media outlets including Gawker are pointing to author Joe McGinniss as one of the sources of the leaked manuscript.

McGinniss is probably best known for moving next door to the Palin family last year to work on his book about her.

Gawker's best analytical nugget: "We can confirm that through 41 pages, 'Unflippinbelievable' is the word Sarah Palin most frequently uses in private communications."
