L.A. Today: Stadiums, Stadiums, And City Pay Checks
Comments (1)
It’s been a big week for those seeking the NFL’s return to Los Angeles. The proposed downtown stadium got a naming rights deal worth $700 million, prompting politicians and other big wigs to hold a mini-fiesta. The Los Angeles Times used the word “pep rally.” A financial analyst will also be recruited by the city, the Times says, to study the benefits and costs of AEG’s proposal.
The Daily News takes a deeper look at the plan and its costs, possibly totally $1.35 billion.
If anyone has suggestions for a team name, shoot me an email here, and we’ll post them on Monday. All “Los Angeles Stars” suggestions will be ignored.
In other stadium news, the Sports Arena is on its last legs, to be replaced possibly by an amphitheatre or soccer stadium. Neon Tommy’s Paresh Dave explains here.
L.A. City Council members got a few national awards from a new Pew study, the Daily News reports: highest paid and largest office budgets.
Also, if over the weekend you have some spare time, take a spin through the salaries of L.A. City employees via the city controller—now with updated year-end totals! Some 2010 figures are significantly higher, or lower than the employees’ salaries because of overtime or furloughs.
