The votes are in, and readers have spoken loud and clear: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is the person of the year.

With 382,020 votes, the 39-year-old Australian best known for running the anti-secrecy organization was the clear victor. Coming in second was Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, with 148,383 fewer votes.

Assange beat out pop culture icon Lady Gaga (though she beat him in Facebook "likes"), the president and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg for the top spot.
