Republicans Poised For Victory In Florida
The three-way race between a Tea Party-endorsed Republican, a Democratic representative and a Republican-turned-independent has attracted national attention, both because of its potential as an experiment with a three-party system and because some big-wigs, including former President Bill Clinton, have gotten involved in rather interesting ways.
Clinton, of course, allegedly pushed Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek to drop out of the race and endorse Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running as an independent. Clinton denied advising Meek to make that decision, but admits that the topic was discussed.
The likely winner tonight will be Republican Marco Rubio, a Tea Party darling who came from behind to defeat Crist for the Republican nomination. The latest Quinnipiac University poll shows Rubio, who cast his vote in West Miami this morning, leading with 45 percent of the vote, while Crist had 31 percent and Meek 18 percent. A Sunshine State News/Voter Survey Service found much the same trend.
