Former President Bill Clinton tried to convince Democratic candidate for Senate from Florida Kendrick Meek to bow out of the race twice last week in a bid to garner for support for Governor and Independent candidate for Senate Charlie Crist.

Meek is reported to have seriously considered the offer and supported endorsing Crist should he have done so, according to Politico.

The race for the Florida Senate seat is a complicated three-way race between Meek, Republican Marco Rubio, and Crist.  Meek is currently only commanding 15 percent of voter support, contributing to projections that Republican Rubio has a 91 percent chance of winning the race.  Should Meek drop out, his supporters are likely to vote for Crist, and could put the governor in the Senate.

Crist, the current governor of Florida, switched his party affiliation from Republican to Independent in April.
