House Republicans Blast Democrats For Delaying Rangel, Waters Ethics Trials

The five Republicans on the House Ethics Committee criticized the panel's chairwoman, a Democrat, for delaying a pair of high-profile ethics cases that could have brough negative attention to Democrats ahead of the mid-term elections.
The Republicans said in statement released late Tuesday:
The Chairwoman has repeatedly refused to set either the Charles Rangel or Maxine Waters trial before the November election. While we regret that the Committee has not worked together in a bipartisan fashion to ensure the transparent and fair resolution of these matters to date, we look forward to working with the Chairwoman in a bipartisan manner to accomplish this – and other important unfinished Committee business – in the coming weeks.
Though the Democrats currently control both houses of Congress, they will surely lose seats Nov. 2 and some have expressed worry about losing power completely.
Ethics Committee ranking member, Rep. Jo Bonner (R-Ala.), said committee Chairwoman Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) is not acting in the best interests of Americans by stalling the trials.
Waters faces charges of helping a bank her husband invested in received TARP funds.
Rangel's in trouble for failing to report certain assests, failing to pay some taxes and misusing a rent-controlled apartment, among other charges..
