BØRNS And MisterWives At The Troubadour: Show Review
First up was BØRNS (Garrett Borns), an Angeleno by way of Michigan, whose glam rock single has been making the waves lately as the backing track on several commercials, among other things. BØRNS, for those who are unfamiliar, sounds like an indie prince who was raised by the Beach Boys alongside unicorns and nymphs.
He and his impeccable voice powered through cuts off of his debut EP, “Candy,” and tracks off of his upcoming debut record. After opening with “10,000 Emerald Pools,” BØRNS showed off his musical prowess with tracks like “Seeing Stars” and “Past Lives.” For the better part of an hour, BØRNS delivered a set so solid you would’ve sworn he was the opening act. He closed his magical set with “Electric Love,” a glittery guitar tune that will likely dominate the radio this summer.

After a short intermission, a sold out crowd gathered in anticipation of MisterWives, whose debut record and string of singles won the hearts of many this past year. The New York band strolled onto stage with immense enthusiasm and energy, as it was the first show they had played since the past few were cancelled due to an illness in the band.
Opening with “Our Own House,” the title track of their debut record of the same name, Mandy Lee and her band mates launched into a relentlessly energetic set on Friday night. In between the opening numbers, the band kicked off the night with a stomp dance that let everyone know they were there to put on a show. And that’s exactly what they did.
The group took a slower turn when they played “Vagabonds,” which featured Mandy on the piano, but picked up the pace once again with “Not Your Way.” After a brief intermission, the band marched back onto the stage for their encore, in which they played a fitting cover, “Uptown Funk,” and ended with “Queens.” When the night ended, everyone had sore knees from dancing along to the set and smiles on their faces from enjoying the night.
