An hour before doors opened, hundreds of Kooks' fans were queueing up for the seasoned British rockers. I knew they were beloved in the indie community, but the enthusiastic turn up was unexpected.

Unexpected, but not unwarranted.

As their banner dropped and the troubadours strolled on stage, energy beamed from every corner of the theatre. Those fans--some of whom had been waiting since that morning--got what they wanted, a stellar show that was probably worth every minute spent waiting in line.

Lead singer Luke Pritchard's impressive dance moves were only edged by his impeccable vocals, making the show all the more special. Playing through their older catalogue, The Kooks ripped through tunes like "Always Where I Need To Be," "She Moves In Her Own Way," and "Sway." 

Later that evening, the Brighton natives also debuted some of their new material from their new album, "Listen." "Around Town" and "Bad Habit" were both highlights and those who hadn't heard the album must have definitely bought it afterwards--the performance was that good. Featuring more electric guitar and heavier sounds, the new songs are more experimental and less acoustic but still carry the traditional "Kooks" vibes which makes the new tracks such great listens.

After playing the new tracks, the band exited the stage and Luke sat in the middle of a dewy light and serenaded the crowd with two lovely acoustics, including the beloved and dreamy "Seaside." After mellowing out the crowd, Luke and his bandmates reunited to play through a few more tracks, including the crowd favorite, "Junk Of The Heart (Happy)." 

The band closed out the night with a slow piano ballad followed by the last song of the set, which (of course) was "Naive." After the show ended, I understood why some fans lined up for hours to be up close and personal with the band--with impressive dance moves, flawless vocals, and tremendous live sounds, I may just line up with them next time.

But until they come again, we can all listen to their latest album, "Listen."
