CVS Kicks The Habit As First Large Chain To Remove Tobacco Products

Major drugstore chain CVS Caremark has rebranded by pulling all tobacco products from its shelves as of Tuesday and undergoing a corporate name change to CVS Health. It intends to focus on providing health care, from walk-in medical clinics to flu shots to a new smoking-cessation campaign.

The removal of tobacco products happened a month early, as it was supposed to go into effect Oct. 1. The journal Health Affairs illustrates that bans at pharmacies in Boston and San Francisco led to more than 13% fewer purchasers of tobacco products.
