World Health Organization Says Ebola Epidemic Could Affect Up To 20,000 People

According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (WHO), at least 20,000 people could eventually be affected by the Ebola outbreak.

This number comes shortly after WHO released more information on the death toll among the 3000+ cases in Western Africa, with more than 40% of the cases occuring within the past three weeks.

Bruce Aylward, WHO's Assistant Director-General for Polio, Emergencies and Country Collaboration, says that combating Ebola will cost roughly $490 million and could take up to nine months.

"It is a big operation. We are talking (about) well over 12,000 people operating over multiple geographies and high-risk circumstances. It is an expensive operation," he said.
