Virginia Strikes Down Same-Sex Marriage Ban

The court 2-1 ruling upheld an earlier decision by the Virginia district court, which struck down the ban on same-sex marriage, according to The Huffington Post.
"Virginia's laws declining to recognize same-sex marriage infringe the fundamental right to marriage and are therefore unconstitutional," reads the ruling.
Judge Henry Floyd said, "We recognize that sameness marriage makes some people uncomfortable. However, inertia and apprehension are not legitimate bass for denying same-sex couples due process and equal protection under the law."
The circuit court has jurisdiction over Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, says USA Today.
The decision will not be in effect until August 18 while circuit clerks defending the ban decide to appeal.
