'Beauty And The Beast' Live-Action Adaptation Under Development

Disney has announced its plan to bring its classic-fairy-tale “Beauty and the Beast” back to the screen. This should not come as a surprise, after all Disney’s “Maleficent” has already grossed more than $183 million worldwide with no signs of slowing down.
Since 1991, Disney’s original “Beauty and Beast” has captured the hearts of many. The animated film was a huge success at the box office, making more than $420 million internationally. It garnered critical acclaim, winning three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards for Best Original Song and Best Original Score. Not only that but the Oscar-winning film generated a 13 year-long Broadway musical.

Expectations are definitely high, but Director Bill Condon is up to the challenge. Set to direct the live-action fairy tale, Condon has worked on musical films – which can help this film. Condon directed the musical drama “Dreamgirls” and served as a writer for critically acclaimed musical “Chicago.” According to Variety, screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos who’s written for many Disney films (The Lion King 1½, The Jungle Book 2, The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning) will also be writing the script for Beauty and the Beast.
Now that Disney has given the greenlight for the live-action remake, we must all wait impatiently. The questions that linger are, who will play Belle? Beast? Oh and how about Gaston?

I know you can’t wait, but don’t prick your finger on that spinning wheel just yet! Disney is in the works of releasing two live-action films: Cinderella by Kenneth Branagh and The Jungle Book by Jon Fravreau. Now that “Beauty and the Beast” is a definite go, we hope to see more Disney remakes.
